La norma IFS acredita que los productos que suministran las empresas se ajustan a la legislación vigente. La acreditación International Food Standard fue creada por la asociación de distribuidores de Alemania, Italia y Francia.

Aquellas empresas que deseen exportar sus alimentos o productos a los mercados de los países citados deberán tener implementado el certificado IFS. Este certificado engloba a las empresas fabricantes de productos alimenticios como a las empresas envasadoras. Advertir que es necesario tener un sistema APPCC previo que evite de manera preventiva los riesgos para la salud.

Mediante esta norma se garantiza la seguridad, la legalidad y la calidad de los productos a distribuir. Pero además contribuye a la reducción de costes y tiempo en el proceso de distribución de los productos. Gracias a este sistema, se tendrán un control más específico de los riesgos para la seguridad alimentaria.
